I have AT&T and I'm getting an iPhone. How do I switch service?

I'm getting a hand-me-down iPhone from my brother who is getting a new 3GS iPhone. I currently use AT&T with a Samsung Blackjack II. When I get the iPhone, how do I switch service so that the iPhone uses my phone number and becomes MY active phone?
