Mel Brooks The Producers is now in Germany.Do think it was bad taste for a anyone to make light of Hitler?

I know Mel is a Jew. I wonder would the reaction to the movie/play be hostile if not for this fact. As a non Jew I would find this very funny play in poor taste..
