Alligator snapping turtle?

We were digging our septic tank out, and i found a turtle. i believe it to be an alligator snapping turtle (due to its spiky shell, claws, and no spots on stomach). but i am not sure though. i was wondering if anyone knew if this kind of turtle is banned in Mississippi. Also i was wondering if anyone would like to purchase him/her. only if you know how to handle snappers, and will give it a good home. because i know i cannot. i know NOTHING about turtles. ask me about rodents or dogs, and i can answer it...but not on turtles... the only problem is, it's in the 30's here and it's quite cold. so i know i need to keep him/her until it warms up...any help will be greatly appreciated :)
